About Mittens Grooming

Hi, I’m Greta, the face behind Mittens Mobile Cat Grooming. As a qualified cat groomer with an IPET Level 3 Diploma in Cat Grooming and Salon Management, along with a Feline Health, Wellbeing, and First Aid Certificate, I’m passionate about providing a stress-free, gentle grooming experience for every cat I work with.

I know that grooming can be an unusual or even stressful experience for some cats, especially if they’ve had a bad experience in the past. That’s why I work one-on-one, in the familiar surroundings of your home, using natural products and the right tools for each coat type. My approach is always patient, never rushed, and tailored to your cat’s personality, health, and comfort level.

When booking a session, you’ll fill out a form with details about your cat’s breed, age, temperament, health conditions, and grooming history. This helps me prepare for the session and ensure the best possible care. Before we begin, I may also ask additional questions to make sure your cat is comfortable and at ease.

Based in East London and Essex, I bring professional grooming to your door—so your cat can stay relaxed, and you can be involved in the process.

Sessions typically take from 1.30 hours to 2 hours, depending on the service and your cat’s comfort level. For first time please allow up to 2 hours.

Please keep your cat indoors before I arrive, and avoid feeding them at least 2 hours before the session. When it’s time for the grooming, I’ll need a quiet, safe space to work in—preferably a room with doors, like a bathroom or conservatory. I’ll bring along my folding table, so all I need is a comfy spot to safely groom your cat. This preparation will help keep everything calm and comfortable for your cat!
It’s totally up to you! Some cats feel more comfortable with you nearby. Your soothing voice and gentle touch can help keep them calm during the session. There may be times when I’ll ask for a little help holding your cat, but otherwise, you can stay as involved (or not) as you’d like!
I am professionally trained to handle cats safely and with minimal use of aids. My goal is always to keep your cat as comfortable as possible. However, if a cat becomes too stressed or aggressive, I may use a soft muzzle to protect both myself and your cat from potential injuries. Your cat’s safety and comfort are always my top priority.
I always do my best to groom every cat, even those with a bit of an attitude! If your cat tends to get anxious or aggressive, I use a calming spray to help them feel more relaxed. Please let me know if your cat has shown any aggressive behavior like biting, scratching, or growling in the past. Depending on how severe the behavior is, I may recommend grooming your cat after it’s had calming medication prescribed by your vet to ensure a safer, more comfortable experience for everyone.
If your cat has fleas, I recommend contacting your vet for the right treatment and giving it at least 48 hours before your grooming appointment. It’s also important to treat your home for fleas. If I find live fleas on your cat during the grooming session, I’ll still complete the groom but will charge an extra fee for the additional cleaning and disinfecting of my tools and equipment. Your cat’s health and comfort are my priority, and I want to make sure to provide a clean and safe environment for both of us!
I tailor each grooming session to accommodate your cat’s health, including arthritis, chronic pain, or skin sensitivities. Please inform me beforehand.
I suggest helping your cat feel calm and comfortable in the area where we’ll be grooming. It might be a good idea to give them a little time to relax first.
Regular grooming is important for your cat’s health! It helps keep their coat free from mats, keeps their paws healthy, reduces shedding, and even helps with allergies. Plus, grooming can prevent hairballs, which many cats (and owners) would rather avoid! It’s a great way to keep your cat feeling comfortable and looking their best.
This depends on your cat’s breed and coat type. Regular grooming helps reduce shedding and mats, and I’ll guide you based on your cat’s needs.
Yes, it is! Professional grooming offers many benefits for your cat, including reducing shedding, preventing matting, and maintaining a healthy coat. Groomers can also check for skin issues, parasites, and overall health concerns that might go unnoticed. For cats that dislike bathing or brushing, a groomer provides a calm, stress-free experience tailored to their needs, ensuring they feel comfortable and pampered.
Yes, I specialize in working with anxious cats. I’ll take it slow and use gentle techniques to ensure they feel safe.
Yes, especially for first-time groomings, I focus on making the experience positive and may take multiple sessions to complete the grooming.

Please notify us at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

I will ask detailed questions about your cat’s health, behavior, and grooming history to recommend the best service for them.
To secure your appointment, I ask for a £40 deposit within 24 hours of booking. The balance is due immediately after the grooming session, and you can pay by cash or bank transfer—whichever works best for you.

Grooming

Health/behaviour
– Your cat’s health and well-being are our priority.
– Grooming in cats can cause stress to the kidneys, heart and other organs, which can result in death. This is rare but you are informed that there is a risk. The Groomer will stop the groom if the cat starts showing signs of distress and aggression, and any personal expression of how you wanted your pet to be groomed will no longer be considered. The Groomer will only do what is best for your cat.
– You agree to advise us of any health conditions your cat may have, as it might influence how we approach grooming and make it less stressful for your cat.
– We reserve the right to refuse to work with your cat if grooming might harm or worsen any existing condition.
– You agree that we will not be held responsible for any pre-existing conditions found during the grooming.
– We will advise you to seek appropriate treatment from your veterinarian if a medical problem uncovered during grooming needs urgent attention.
– You are responsible for all medical expenses.

– You must inform us if your cat has ever bitten or shown aggression towards visitors, family members, or you. This is for your cat’s and our safety.
– If your cat becomes aggressive during the grooming session, with your agreement, we might use a soft cone on its head to ensure we can finish the groom with the least damage to your cat and us.
– We might ask you to assist us in speaking softly to your cat, feeding them treats, or just reassuring your pet with your presence.
– Sometimes, the groom might need to be split into two sessions. This will be done to keep your cat’s stress levels down. If appropriate, we will schedule a follow-up appointment at a later date to finish the groom. The full groom price still applies, and you agree to pay the travel cost for the follow-up appointment.
– In extreme cases, you might be advised to get your cat groomed by a vet under sedation.
– You agree that we will not be liable for any after-grooming effects or ill health. This includes, but is not limited to, the risks outlined in the Matted coat disclaimer.

Matted Coat Disclaimer

All cats can develop mats. Matting and, even worse, pelting cause discomfort to your pet, pulling on the skin and restricting air circulation. The cat may become aggressive and dislike being stroked or touched. Their behaviour can change because of the constant pain they are experiencing.

Skin conditions are not visible due to a matted coat, which, after clipping, can appear as irritation, redness or soreness.

Cats’ skin is very thin and great care is taken when shaving out mats. However, there is a risk of nicks and cuts, patchiness and hair loss, uncovering existing skin conditions. You agree to the risk involved during this procedure.

Mittens Grooming will not be liable for uncovering any preexisting  conditions caused by a matted /pelted coat and any subsequent medical treatment that may be required because of coat removal.

Clipping a cat’s coats can result in hair regrowth failure and changes in colour and texture. It can take up to 6 months or more for a full regrowth.

Please be aware that this procedure will drastically change your cats appearance and sometimes it affects their behaviour as well as behaviour of other pets in the house towards them.

Your cat will need extra protection in the cold winter months and in the hot summer months, especially if it is an outdoor cat.

Consent to remove the matted coat on understanding the above problems can happen.

Repeated matting and pelting of the coat cause unnecessary stress and ill health to your cat.

Prevention is the best way forward, so we will recommend a regular grooming schedule and advise on home grooming techniques to keep your cat knot and matt-free.
